wedding bells

by gunner_girl @ 24.06.2006 - 15:59:06

everyone i know that has either got married or getting married think about big flowers, loud heart felt music, massive church, big party and all that. people watching the bride walk down the aisle in a white wedding dress that resembles a meringue. why do people do dat? i mean why do people feel the need to get married just to prove to someone you love them, but then again marriage aint exactly proof is it, i mean both men and women have affairs so them vows they said to each other at the alter dissapear like they were never there. all i know is, is that if i ever get married which is very unlikely id do it at a registry office or i would just change my name by depol, alot easier and less fuss. less is more so they say aint it

I feel exchanging vows and the whole wedding thing is a rites of passage ritual. We have lost all care for the significance of such things. In some cultures boys go through a rites of passage to become men. In our culture we are lucky if a boy ever makes such a transition into manhood.

It does seem twisted, doesn't it?
I remember listening to this woman going on about the wedding and the things she wanted for her kitchen. I just wondered about where the man she was marrying fitted into it all...
I think one should mean the vows if one does go through the ceremony.

Ok, maybe, there is a rest of romantic in me. And although I told all the world that I never get married, I think, if you find the right person, which is - and this is a fact - really seldom, it could change your mind. Then sometimes you catch yourself watching a stupid wedding show on TV or stopping at the shop at the corner with this beautiful wedding dress for a second or two, which you never did or not even imagined to do before. *g*
I think, if I were really in love, then I would wish for myself the church, the vows and the white wedding dress. - But if I would invite my whole crazy and nervy family, that's another point. ;) :D

I'm a Christian so I believe in marriage, but not necessarily lavish weddings... I believe the committment is important. If you stay with one person your entire life, you're married, whether you sign a register or not.

God bless, Jenni xx
