i wana take the time to stick up for some londoners out there who get looked at funny, cussed hardcore and not stick up for themselves, some of us get bullied coz others think we are bullies by thinking we are racist. london is da most multi-cultural city in england, for example we have indians, asians, chinese, irish, scottish, welsh, greek, italian, turkish, curdish, somalian etc. you namer it we have it. i aint got nuttin against any one coz im too nice a person, but i do have my principles and my understandings that, all other ethnicity should take into account what the country has done and provided for them, but no they still not satisfied, we busted our balls, to get work, and to set up religious things for them ie: churches and stuff, but they come over all ungrateful. if we went to another country, would they bust their balls in getting a christian, catholic etc churches, no they wouldnt. thats my explaining done bout not all londoners being racist. xx

I know Londoners aren't racist too! I was there and also at Northern Ireland... and I enjoyed my time at both places.
I guess, when you go to other countries, you should make an effort to learn their language. When I went to Japan, I did learn the basic Japanese language. And I found that when the Japanese hear me speak their language (even though in broken Japanese), they were so amazed and knew that I was trying to close our racial gap. That made acceptance easier....

hey there, gunner_girl! a big round of applause to you for not being racist.
actually, this thing about people being racist depends very much on us (the ones who are different from the majority), really... here's an example. As you know, I wear the 'hejab' (which is the headscarf muslim women wear). I was skeptical when hubby decided to bring me to a western country (shall not name it here) for a holiday (and that was after Sept 11, too!). If I can be honest here, I was SCARED!!! I didn't know how they were going to treat me. But still, I went. And I found myself enjoying my trip so much!!!!! The westerners were nice! Firstly, I supposed, they were shocked that I spoke English so well. So. that kind of broke the ice immediately. Secondly, I was nice and courteous to everyone I met. So, ultimately, it depends on me (the minority, in this case). If you are nice, others would be nice to you, too! And seeing that I wear the 'hejab', some of them greeted me with 'assalamualaikum', which is the muslim way to greet others. I was SO HAPPY there!!!!!
And you know what? While I was at the airport, this group of people (who were not westerners) had a hard time clearing the customs. Reason: they were very rude to the officer. So you see, it's not your race or your religion BUT the way you behave. I always believe that if you are nice to others first, they will be nice to you back.
Just my humble thoughts

I know Londoners aren't racist. In fact, I love it when I live there because I think people from other parts of the country are far more racist. I hear racist comments about foreign players in football teams all the time down here, for example.
I think when English people get hypocritical is we complain about people coming over here and sticking to their own kind and not mixing, then do exactly the same when we go to live in other countries! There are villages in France which are 60% English speaking - the English just haven't bothered to learn French!
God bless, Jenni xx
